Nature is always active, even in the frozen winter landscape when most plants are tucked under a blanket of snow. And in those few places where water resists the hard freeze, you’ll often discover a congregation of waterfowl swimming about or lazing on snowbanks.
Restored to the North American landscape after near extinction, Trumpeter Swans now thrive in ever greater populations. Many pairs congregate at a special spot on the Minnesota River that remains ice-free throughout the winter months.
Trumpeter Swan (Cygnus buccinator)
With their signature crisp white feathers, Swans practically glow against deep shadows cast by the low-angled sun. This collection’s monochromatic palette of cool blues is inspired by the icy water and snow-covered shores of this winter oasis.
