Flamingo Beach

While no amount of wishing will make them native to the upper midwest, Flamingos do happen to grace more than a few suburban lawns. But the real-life inspiration for those plastic masterpieces is even more spectacular!

Flamingos do thrive in zoological gardens where I enjoy studying their iconic shape, color and movement, even if removed from their natural habitat. The pink and coral palette range references flamingos’ unique feather color, derived from their carotenoid-rich diet. Birds can be near white to almost red.

Greater Flamingo (Phoenicopterus roseus)

For months of summer fun or to chase away the grays of short winter days, whatever the season, this collection invites in a little of the warmth and sunshine associated with this icon of more subtropical climes.
